The hiking village of Grossarl awaits you roughly in the middle of the valley with numerous mountain huts, a big sports & recreation center with swimming pool, sports facilities and the legendary GAUDI-Alm, Salzburg’s biggest playground set amidst alpine meadows. With the Grossarltal panorama lift, you will float from the town center up to your carefree mountain experience on and around the summits of the Kreuzkogel and Fulseck. Enjoy an excursion to “Mirror Lake” in Dorfgastein and to the newly redesigned Himmelreich reservoir in Grossarl, a paradise for the whole family. Fun and action are guaranteed by a mountain cart ride on the downhill track or mountain biking on a single-trail just recently enlarged in 2019, now extending some 10 km with an elevation change of around 1000 m.
Bergsteigerdorf® Hüttschlag a little farther back in the valley attracts visitors with its picturesque valley head. Also where Hohe Tauern National Park begins in Grossarltal. Which means, Hüttschlag offers tranquility, relaxation, pristine nature, along with some really challenging alpine tours and summit conquests, including the Keeskogel and Weinschnabel. Also especially popular is the hike along the Salzburger Almenweg from the Gamskarkogel via Hüttschlag to the Tappenkarsee, continuing the length of Grossarltal to Ghost Mountain in St. Johann Alpendorf and Wagrainis Grafenberg in Wagrain. Fixed-cable climbs through the Hüttschlager Wand promise pure adrenaline.
Thanks to the activity program of BERG-GESUND, every week you can participate in as many as 10 guided tours, including a yoga hike, a “deceleration day”, a fitness hike, guided high-alpine tours to seven of the most beautiful peaks in the valley, along with a via ferrata climb. Participation is free for all guests of the approximately 110 BERG-GESUND partner businesses.
Mom prefers the more inviting wide pistes, dad loves the freeride challenges of the Himmelreich and the extra-long Bergland Route. And while the two of them relax side-by-side out on the cozy sun terrace, their kids are busy zooming through the cool Snopark and down the Fun Slope. When everybody’s finally done with skiing, the whole family can pay a visit to one of our friendly ski huts with views of the snow-capped Hohe Tauern mountains, to enjoy a selection of popular regional dishes together.
Away from the pistes, the two winter sports communities of Grossarl and Hüttschlag attract visitors with a colorful selection of opportunities for sports & recreation. Active winter sports fans pull on their snowshoes or touring skis and make a beeline for the valley’s numerous expanses of high pastures and imposing summits. In addition, floodlit toboggan runs, horse-drawn sleigh rides, cross-country ski trails, ice climbing, winter hiking etc. provide all the variety you could wish for.
Thanks to our activity program known as BERG-GESUND, featuring guided ski tours, snowshoe expeditions, fitness hikes, ice climbing etc., Grossarltal proudly offers the greatest variety in all of Ski amadé. Further information is available at: www.berg-gesund.at. Participation is free for all guests of our approximately 110 BERG-GESUND partner businesses.
